Yarn Along - I'm BAAAACK

I was able to reclaim my "nest" by the window after putting the Christmas decorations away but the sunlight totally caught me off guard when I filmed the podcast. You may have to don your Ray-bans!

I missed knitty podcast-land over the holidays and I am glad to be back! How about you? Are you back into the swing of things?

  1. So glad to see you podcasting again.
About slipping the first stitch in flat knitting. In continental knitting 2 selvage stitches are added automatically to a stitch count for any piece of flat knitting (at least in most cases). You slip the first stitch purlwise, and always knit the last stitch. That gives you a neat edge on both sides, where every chain of the edge equals two rows. I was surprised to find out the American knitters don't do that, when I moved to this country. (I am still getting used to the whole throwing part too!)

  2. Hi Amanda. :) Just got caught up by watching #4 & 5 while knitting on a new project with a skein of yarn I bought from Ginny. Worsted merino that was dyed with walnut shells. so soft and pretty! Anyway, was a fun way to spend the evening while my husband was out at a meeting. I don't know if you remember, but I started At the Water's Edge after hearing you chat about it (or you wrote about it). Anyway, thanks for not giving it away and thanks for the warning!! Looking forward to #6. :)

  3. PS: I ordered Poisonwood but won't be able to read along as I've got too many other books going right now. This is one of the things I love about our knitting community -- so many good knitting and reading ideas. Thank you!

  4. Yay! It was so fun to go back and listen to this! I put my kids in separate rooms with their books to rest and be quiet and I pulled out my cardi to work on and put on your video! Only got one row done because I realized I had made a careless mistake a couple days ago and needed to figure that out but fortunately it will just make the sweater a bit roomier, no problem, no tinking needed. Your peaceful voice was my company while counting stitches.

I know I've said it before, but it bears repeating: the Wingfeather books are wonderful. I loved them all the more as they went and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying them.
