The pictures above, most of them, are from my trip to the Yarn Barn. Pat does amazing color work! The autumn color way from the original Baa-ble Hat pattern is very backordered so Pat used 'gingersnap' in her hat and I think it is just perfect for our Virginia clay soils. UPDATE: In the video I talked about the hat coming out too big. Kate aka Willfulmina informed me that Susan B. Anderson had published some modifications to correct this. I have linked to that site below. Apparently I just didn't dig deep enough on that one! Thanks, Kate.
The yarn that I am holding up there is the Noro Yuzen in #10, same as the yarn used in Ginny's cowl on instagram. Pat has 7 skien of it remaining (you need two for the honey cowl, I think) at $10 each.
The sun went down on me, literally, so the podcast gets darker and darker as it goes.
Let's call it "moody" for effect. I hope you enjoy it.

Yarn Barn looks incredible! Would love to visit it!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to stop at the Yarn Barn next time I am in VA, wow!
ReplyDeleteAbout the tension on your ribbing, I always go down two needle sizes to make sure it has a nice fit [then again I have a very small head].
I absolutely love the gifts you are doing for your sister and I thought I was going to cry just listening to you tell about them!
Hope your cold is getting better, my Mike has a head cold so I guess I will have one soon. :)
Here is a great site that helped me when I first learned to knit socks...

Just yell if you need help!
Thank you!
DeleteAmanda, I am just captivated by your podcasts. I look forward to Wednesday, so I could sit with my knitting and enjoy listening to you :0). I am making a sweater with a crochet hook his time around. I am a very slow knitter and I am still learning. I am an avid sewer and now in teaching myself how to quilt. I understand about spending too much time online, since I deal with an unknown disease at this time, been online is becoming my way of visiting friends. :-).
ReplyDeleteThe gift for your sister is just perfect and the book is something I would want to read to my daughter. Thanks dear lady for sharing. Have a blessed week!
Here it is 4 a.m. -- couldn't sleep, so I thought, "Amanda's podcast! That's what I'll do..." Just finished and have to say you are such a natural behind the camera. Your Yarn Barn sounds like a treasure trove of not only yarn but also advice and help with projects. I knit a baby boy cardi last year and used the m1L and m1R increases every other row. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to next week. :)
You're a peach. :) AND you reminded me about the M1L & M1R - I will have to mention it next week...
DeleteWow, when I scrolled through I thought you had knit all those beauties yourself! Looks like a fun shopping trip. I must add your podcast to my list. Have a lovely week. Tania ~hedgerowharvest.com~
ReplyDeleteHey Amanda! Another great podcast - thank you for taking the time to do it. You asked which yarn I was using for my current Baable hat. It was old stash with no labels so I cant really tell you. For the rest of it I am using Patons worsted wool. Now I used that same yarn last time and the hat came out too big and I have a pretty big head. This one I am following Susan B. Andersons instructions and I think it will fit better (this one is for my niece). You can find the modifications here: http://susanbanderson.blogspot.com/2015/10/modifications-and-tips-for-baa-ble-hat.html
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think worsted is the key for me, though I am really in love with the colors of the Jamieson.
DeleteReally enjoyed your Podcast! Is this the Yarn Barn that is over off of the Fairfax County Parkway??
ReplyDeleteLinda in VA
Hi Linda! Thanks for following along. The Yarn Barn I am talking about is Kirtland's Yarn Barn in Dillwyn, VA. A bit out of the way.... from everything. It is "local" to me and it is a 35 minute drive to get there.
DeleteI wanted to thank you for your time to do such a fun cast!! My baable hat is in worsted on size seven and it turned out perfectly. If that helps. My favorite increase is to lift from below and twist the ladder and knit into it. You can twist to the left or right so that the increases mirror each other.
ReplyDeleteWorsted is key for me, I think - I love knitting with Ella Rae but I really love the colors Jamieson has. I am SO bad at making up my mind on these things, I can't knit a half-hearted project. :)
DeleteSo enjoying your podcast. I don't knitt,at least not yet, maybe 2016 will be the year I learn.
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you thank you! I am really an amateur but the internet it such a wonderful place to learn!
